The IPL has pitchforked some relatively unknown cricketers from the shadows of regional matches into the bright lights of international stardom. It will be interesting to see how these youngsters manage the pressures and wealth that the IPL brings.

Here are thumbnail sketches of four rising stars from the various teams. Watch this space for similar information on four more in the days to come.

Manpreet Gony - Chennai Super Kings

Age - 24 years
Bowling Stats
Matches - 8
Wickets - 10
Avg - 24.9
Eco Rate - 8.3 per over

Tall, broad and muscular, Gony has all the traits of a genuine fast bowler. Though he plays for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy, Gony was picked up by the Chennai Super Kings after an impressive show in the Deodhar Trophy. At the time of this writing, he stands joint fourth in the highest wicket takers in the IPL with a tally of 10 victims. He, however, tops the wicket takers list for Chennai, three ahead of Joginder Sharma. Gony has returned some economical spells, sticking to a slightly short of a length mantra to make scoring difficult for the batsmen. In Mahendra Singh Dhoni, his leader in the Chennai franchise, Gony has the ideal mentor to help him pursue his dream of representing the country.
Highlight - A match-winning spell of 3/34 against the Bangalore Royal Challengers, which included a first ball dismissal of captain Rahul Dravid.

Shikhar Dhawan - Delhi Daredevils

Age - 22 years
Batting Stats
Matches - 7
Runs - 206
Avg - 51.50
Strike rate - 120.46
50’s - 3

Picked as a local talent for the Delhi Daredevils squad, Dhawan has been a stellar performer for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy. He has impressed one and all with his consistent performances with the bat in the IPL so far. Dhawan has made sure that the batters down the order in his team didn’t get too many opportunities at the crease, by finishing matches with three unbeaten innings’ to steer his side home. His mature approach belies his age, even though he did make his first class debut 4 years back in the 04/05 season. He is third on the list of run scorers for the Delhi team, behind openers Sehwag and Gambhir. He is also second in averages. A batsman in the classical mould with shots all around the wicket, Dhawan is the ideal number 3 for Delhi to balance the explosive Gambhir and Sehwag at the top.
Highlight - A responsible 52 not-out against the Rajasthan Royals to guide Delhi to victory in their opening IPL match.

Piyush Chawla - Kings XI Punjab

Age - 19 years
Bowling Stats
Matches - 7
Wickets - 8
Avg - 20.00
Eco Rate - 8.0
Batting Stats
Matches - 7
Runs - 45
Avg - 45
Strike Rate - 236.84

Chawla has been in and out of the Indian national team for a while now, and the IPL provides him with an ideal opportunity to please the men who matter and seal his place for India. With 8 wickets so far, Piyush is in sixth position in the wicket takers list, but boasts of added value in the form of his batting. He took Ishant Sharma to the cleaners, blasting him for 20 runs in an over against the Kolkata Riders to prove his worth as a useful all-rounder. Not afraid to flight the ball, he has repeatedly deceived the batsmen with his well-disguised googly. Though he was expensive and wicketless in his first two matches, he has come back strongly to prove that slower bowlers could be a major weapon even in this slam-bang version of the game.
Highlight - Figures of 3/28 in the victory over the Deccan Chargers, teasing the batters with varied flight and turn.

Shaun Marsh - Kings XI Punjab

Age - 24 years
Batting Stats
Matches - 3
Runs - 163
Avg - 81.50
Strike Rate - 127.34
50’s - 1

Just 3 matches old in the IPL, Shaun Marsh already finds himself in the 15th position in the highest run-getters table of the IPL so far. Marsh’s late entry into the Punjab side has seen them win all three matches he has figured in. But times weren’t always this rosy for Marsh, who was suspended from his Western Australian state squad after he was caught drinking the night before a match. Marsh credits this incident as the wake up call which resulted in his strong comeback. His ability to play long innings’ will keep him in good stead in the years to come. He is already been talked about as a future Australian international cricket star, and if he continues to perform the way he has in the IPL so far, this could very well be the case.
Highlight - An crucial innings of 84 against RP Singh and the Deccan Chargers to clinch a clinical chase for his team.

Child Free Life Spreading (By Uwon)

AmitR's picture

Today i m about to tell u one thing truth which may spoil our society.I mean to say Indian Society.Yes i m talking about “CHILD FREE” life.today in India also in many metro cities New Married Couples are taking commitment that no to give born to new baby. Many Womans and their Husbands is accepting this rule. Its because today womans are thinking more on their career and to earn money than to be a mother. It means they are deciding not be a mother just for their career? This is not good. This thinking is wrong according to me.This type of couples are should not marry only.Y one gets marry? To make a family and to live together. But this couples wants to stay only and to enjoy. If this rule will continue than i think in near no woman will become a MOTHER.And no Man will enjoy having a child in his hand playing with a innocent baby. This Rule should be stopped and i do not accept this rule.Another bad thing for this type of couples is that when they will become old how their name, fame and family will go ahead?Without children to whom they will give all this things?
